Johns Hopkins Splits with Bates and Dickinson

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team got mixed results on Sunday with a 9-0 win at Dickinson, but a 7-2 loss at home to 29th-ranked Bates. The Blue Jays are now 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Up in Carlisle, Hopkins lost at total of just 17 games between singles and doubles en route to the 9-0 win. It is the Blue Jays' 19th straight win over the Red Devils. Junior Morgan Dauer and freshman David Greenbaum rolled to an 8-0 win at third doubles over Jon Brittin and David London. Freshman Ed Corty and sophomore German Gonzalez then earned an 8-1 win over Erik Dinardo and Hunter Dewing-Hommes at second. Junior Jeff Kamei and freshman Sam Weissler wrapped up doubles with an 8-3 win at first over Will Golinkin and Franco Mena.

In singles, Hopkins swept each match in straight sets. Dauer picked up the Blue Jays' fourth point of the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Dixon Blue at second. Weissler then clinched the win for Hopkins as he beat Golinkin 6-3, 6-1 at first. Gonzalez followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over London at sixth. Greenbaum pushed the Blue Jays' lead to seven with a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth over Brittin. While Kamei earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mena at third. Corty closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ari Blask at third.

Back in Baltimore, the Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Matt Bettles and Robert Crampton won 8-4 at first doubles over seniors Jacob Barnaby and Warren Elgort. While Tim Berg and Pierre Planche beat freshmen Tanner Brown and Erik Lim 8-3 at second. And at third, Kyle DeSisto and Peter Yanofsky won 8-5 over freshmen Ben Hwang and Noah Joachim.

In singles play, Hopkins earned wins at fourth and sixth. Berg was a 7-6, 6-2 winner at first over Brown. While at second, Bettles beat Hwang 6-3, 6-2. Crampton won at third, 6-1, 7-6 over freshman Jensen Reiter. Elgort lost just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth over Jeffrey Beaton. And Joachim won 6-4, 6-2 at sixth over DeSisto. The only match decided in three sets, Plance rallied for a 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 win at fifth over Lim.

Hopkins returns to the court on Wednesday, March 28 as the Blue Jays travel to the Battlefield to take on the Gettysburg Bullet. The Centennial Conference match is set for a 4:00 pm start.
