Johns Hopkins Wins 50th Straight Centennial Conference Match

GETTYSBURG, PA - The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team won its 50th consecutive Centennial Conference match with a 9-0 win at Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Bullets slip to 3-4 and 0-2 in the Centennial.

Freshmen Ed Corty and David Greenbaum put Hopkins on top early with an 8-1 win at third doubles over Sebastian Rodriguez and Mike Pratt. Senior Jacob Barnaby and freshman Sam Weissler then beat Terry Keegan and Chris Curran at first, 8-5. Junior Jeff Kamei and freshman Erik Lim then closed out doubles with a hard-fought 9-8 (10-8) win at second over Mike McLaughlin and Johnny Nelson.

Kamei pushed the Blue Jays closer to victory when he beat Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles. Barnaby then clinched the win at second with a 6-0, 6-3 win over McLaughlin. Greenbaum lost just one game at sixth, beating Mike Pratt 6-0, 6-1. Weissler followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Keegan at third. And Corty then won 6-1, 6-2 at fifth over John Cronin. Lim and Curran then wrapped up the match with a thriller at first. Curran won the first set, 6-4, but Lim rolled to a 6-0 win in the second set to force a super tie-breaker to decide the winner. Curran jumped out to a 4-0 lead however, Lim battled back to take a7-6 lead. Curran answered with a pair of aces to retake the lead and it continued to go back-and-forth until won three straight points to take the win 14-12.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 31 as the Blue Jays host the Ursinus Bears at 11:00 am.
