BALTIMORE, MD - The 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team posted its third straight shutout in Centennial Conference play with a 9-0 win over visiting Ursinus Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays are now 7-4 on the season and 4-0 in conference play, while the Bears are 8-6 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.
Freshmen Ed Corty and Noah Joachim put the Blue Jays on top early with an 8-0 win at third doubles over Mike Melchiorre and David Rowe. Junior Andy Hersh and freshman Sam Weissler then beat Evan Stutchin and Evan Lord, 8-1, at first. Senior Jacob Barnaby and sophomore German Gonzalez wrapped up doubles with an 8-6 win at second over Matt Hope and Dylan Marsh.
Freshman Tanner Brown lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Lord at second to stake Hopkins to a 4-0 lead. Freshman Jensen Reiter followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at third over Hope to clinch the win for the Blue Jays. Hersh then beat Stutchin, 6-3, 6-4 at first. Weissler needed just 14 games to win at fourth, as he defeated Marsh 6-2, 6-0. Freshman David Greenbaum did Weissler one better with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Sean Kelley at fifth. Sophomore Joonas Karjalainen closed out the match in the minimum 12 games at sixth, beating Logan Metcalf-Kelly, 6-0, 6-0.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, April 3 as Franklin & Marshall visits Baltimore for a Centennial Conference match at 4:00 pm.
