ALLENTOWN, PA - The 16th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference play with a 9-0 win at Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 10-3 overall and 7-0 in the conference, while the Mules fall to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the CC.
Hopkins opened with a sweep of the doubles, dropping just five games in three matches. Freshmen Sam Weissler and Edward Corty did not lose a game in an 8-0 win over Ben Berkowitz and Andrew Brod at third doubles. Juniors Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei then beat Daniel Lakhman and Eric Chavis, 8-1, at second. While seniors Jacob Barnaby and Warren Elgort were 8-4 winners over Jordan Rutt and Jason Teitelbaum at first.
In singles play, Weissler pushed the Blue Jays' lead to four in the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Teitelbaum at third. Freshman Jensen Reiter then clinched the win, as he needed only the minimum 12 games to defeat Lakhman, 6-0, 6-0, at second. Hersh won 6-3, 6-0 at first over Rutt. With the match decided and only three courts available due to the women's match, fourth through sixth singles were played in eight-game pro sets. Corty won 8-1 at fifth over Chavis, while sophomore Joonas Karjalainen won by the same score at sixth over Brod. Junior Morgan Dauer blanked Berkowitz, 8-0, at fourth to close out the match.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, April 15 as the Blue Jays travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The non-conference match is slated for a 10:00 am start with live stats available here.
