Johns Hopkins Moves onto Centennial Finals with 5-1 Win

BALTIMORE, MD - The 16th-ranked and top-seeded Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat fifth-seeded Haverford, 5-1, to move into the Centennial Conference Championship match. The Blue Jays (16-4) will seek their sixth straight and seventh overall Centennial Conference title when they take on the Swarthmore Garnet. The Fords see their season come to an end at 11-8. The match was played to decision per conference rules.

Juniors Andy Hersh and Jeffrey Kamei opened the match with a quick 8-0 win at second doubles as the pair beat Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei. Seniors Jacob Barnaby and Warren Elgort followed with an 8-4 win over Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein at first. The win was a record-breaking one for Barnaby, who surpassed his former doubles partner Casey Blythe as the winningest doubles player in program history. Barnaby now has 88 career doubles wins. Haveford picked up a point in the match as Will Garrett and Natty Sergay topped freshmen Tanner Brown and Erik Lim, 8-5 at third to close out doubles.

Lim rebounded with a 6-0, 6-3 win at sixth singles over Garrett to put Hopkins on top 3-1. Brown then beat Sergay in the minimum 12 games (6-0, 6-0) at second to push the Blue Jays one point closer to victory. Freshman Jensen Reiter ended the match with an identical score at fourth, beating Andy Dougherty, 6-0, 6-0.

Hopkins will take on third-seeded Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference Championship match on Sunday at 3:00 pm. The Blue Jays and the Garnet are meeting for the third time in the tournament's history with the Blue Jays holding a 2-0 advantage in the series.
