Johns Hopkins Defeats TCNJ and West Chester

EWING, NJ - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team defeated TCNJ and West Chester in a two-day tri-meet to improve to 6-0 on the season. Hopkins beat host TCNJ by a score of 197-135 and topped Division II West Chester, 246-86. The Blue Jays won six of the nine events on the second day and a total of 11 for the two-day event.

Freshman Bill Gravley kicked off the day with a second-place finish in the 1650 Free as he clocked in with a time of 16:29.46. Hopkins then took the top two spots in the 400 Medley Relay. Sophomores Dylan Davis and Gideon Hou and seniors Nick Schmidt and Dylan Coggin swam a winning time of 3:25.47 to beat their teammates by nearly three seconds. Taking second place were juniors Joe Acquaviva and Anthony Lordi, senior Carter Gisriel and junior Will Kimball finished in 3:28.22.

The Blue Jays turned the same trick in the 200 IM as freshman Justin Tang and Acquaviva took first and second. Tang clocked in with a time of 1:55.78 to just beat Acquaviva by seven-hundredths of a second. In the 50 Free, Coggin was the Blue Jays' top finisher as he placed third with a time of 21.48, just missing second place by one-hundredth of a second. The 200 Fly saw Hopkins once again take first and second. Sophomore Greg Kogut touched in 1:56.33 to take first place, followed by Schmidt in second with a time of 1:56.54.

Lordi followed with a win in the 100 Free, finishing in 46.94, while Kimball took third place in 47.64. For the fourth time of the day, the Blue Jays took the top two spots in an event, this time in the 200 Back. Davis led the way with a time of 1:55.67 to take the win. Tang claimed second place with a time of 1:57.18. Hopkins then took third through fifth in the 200 Breast. Junior Alex Polyak was the top Blue Jay with a time of 2:10.99 and was followed by Hou (2:12.01) and Acquaviva (2:13.47). Hopkins wrapped the meet up with a win in the 400 Free Relay. Coggin, Gisriel, Kimball and Lordi combined for a winning time of 3:07.95.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, January 18 as the Blue Jays host the St. Mary's Seahawks. The Blue Jays third and final home meet of the season will begin at 3:30 pm.
