BALTIMORE, MD - Visiting Gettysburg scored three unanswered goals in a 10-minute span to come from behind for a 4-2 win over Johns Hopkins on Senior Day at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays slip to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference, while the Bullets improve to 9-6 and 4-5 in the CC.
Gettysburg got on the board early to kick off what was a high-scoring first half. Hannah Fitzgerald sent a long hit into the circle from the right end line and Ashleigh Guise redirected the pass from the middle of the circle into the cage at 2:46. Just over five minutes later, the game was tied when junior Alexa Lantiere scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season. Senior Maddie Fryer collected a long hit from sophomore Leslie MacManus, dribbled into the circle and passed the ball down low to Lantiere, where she redirected it at the right post for the score at 7:58.
Sophomore Elena Gresick then scored on a penalty stroke at 13:05 to give Hopkins a 2-1 lead. The lead didn't last long however, as Kelly Spieker pulled the Bullets even at the 15:38-mark in the first of three straight goals by the visitors. Erica Barbuto dribbled into the left side of the circle and sent a low long pass inside, where Spieker deflected it low under sophomore Zoey Atabek to tie the score at two apiece. Kellyann Walley then put Gettysburg on top at 22:50 as the Bullets capitalized off a corner. Walley took the corner and sent the ball out to Fitzgerald, who then passed to Baron. Baron took a hard shot from the edge of the circle and Walley tipped it in to make it 3-2 Gettysburg. Just 2:28 later, the Bullets had a 4-2 lead on Kristen Olenick's goal off a Fitzgerald pass.
Atabek finished with eight saves, while sophomore Shannon Parker added a defensive save. Alexis Bralow finished with five saves in the win.
