Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

SWARTHMORE, PA - Starting pitchers Tyler Goldstein and Jacob Enterlin pitched a pair of gems to lead the No. 5 Johns Hopkins baseball team to victories of 4-1 and 10-0 against Swarthmore Saturday in a matchup of top Centennial Conference teams.

The Blue Jays allowed just one run and eight total hits on the day to extend their winning streak to 18 games and improve to 25-2 (9-0 CC) on the season. The pair of wins gives Hopkins a comfortable three-game lead in the conference standings over Swarthmore, who fell to 18-10 (6-3 CC). It is the third consecutive road double-header sweep to open the season for the Jays.

Goldstein was superb on the mound for the Jays in game one, fanning nine batters on zero walks to earn his third career complete game and second of the season. The junior cruised through the Garnet order, only encountering trouble in the fourth inning.

Hopkins opened the scoring in the top of the fourth after Mike Denlinger and Chris Wilhelm got things going by walking and singling, respectively. Seniors Ryan Zakszeski and Adam Weiner followed with a pair of RBI singles to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.

Goldstein then hit a speed bump in the fourth after loading the bases on zero outs due to a pair of hit batsmen and a single. The veteran Jays stay composed, however, and managed to hold the Garnet to a single run via fielder's choice.

The Jays then completed their scoring in the sixth as Weiner came up to bat with runners on second and third base. The senior second baseman delivered again, scoring Wilhelm with a single. Craig Hoelzer matched Weiner with a single of his own to plate Zakszeski and give the Jays a 4-1 advantage.

Weiner led Hopkins with two RBIs in game one, while Hoelzer, Zakszeski and Kyle Neverman each reached base three times. Danny McMahon and Trevor Shepherd each had a pair of hits for the Garnet.

-- Game Two --

Enterlin carried a perfect game through 6.2 innings and Johns Hopkins walloped three home runs to handily defeat Swarthmore in game two, 10-0.

The sophomore right-hander effectively worked through the Garnet lineup, inducing 11 groundouts before his bid for a perfect game was broken up with two outs in the seventh by an infield error.

Enterlin returned to pitch the eighth inning, but gave up his only hit on a well-struck infield hit to third base. In total, he struck out five batters and gave up one hit in 7.1 innings of work to move to a perfect 6-0 on the season.

Hopkins broke out the big bats in the third inning to provide Enterlin with a comfortable lead, as sophomore Colin McCarthy jacked a three-run home run to left field. Senior Jeff Lynch promptly followed with a homer of his own to give the visitors a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Jays then extended their lead to 9-0 with a big five-run fifth inning that began with walks from Neverman and McCarthy. Denlinger and Wilhelm scored the pair with back-to-back RBI singles, before Zakszeski notched his first home run of the season with a three-run shot to left.

Junior Jonathan Hettleman - starting game two behind the plate in relief of Zakszeski - then gave Hopkins a 10-0 advantage after scoring Denlinger from second with a single.

McCarthy and Zakszeski led all players with three RBIs each in the game, while Denlinger was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Hopkins returns to action tomorrow at 2:00 pm on the JHU Baseball Diamond as it hosts McDaniel in a make-up game. The original game was scheduled to be played last Friday, but was cancelled due to rain.
