Johns Hopkins Upend Haverford, 7-2

BALTIMORE, MD - Host and eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins fell behind, 2-1, after doubles but won all six singles matches to defeat Haverford, 7-2, in Centennial Conference action Saturday. The Blue Jays improve to 12-2 overall and at 6-0 in league play, are the only undefeated team in the CC. The Fords meanwhile, fall to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein opened up the match with an 8-5 win over sophomores Tanner Brown and Erik Lim at first doubles. Freshman Nicholas Garcia and sophomore Noah Joachim answered with n 8-5 win at second over Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei to tie the match. Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman put the Fords back on top with an hard-fought 9-8 (4) win over seniors Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei at third to close out doubles.

Garcia took the first singles point, tying the match at two points apiece, with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Cebul at sixth. Sophomore Sam Weissler then gave the Blue Jays the lead after beating Andy Dougherty 6-2, 6-3 at fourth. Junior Jeremy Schwartz pushed Hopkins lead to 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at sixth over Cebul. Lim then clinched the win for JHU with a come-from-behind win at third. He dropped his first set 6-4, but rallied to win the second 6-1 and then the third, 6-3, over Romei. Hersh followed with a 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Acaba at second. Brown closed out the match as he beat Caulfield 7-6 (3), 3-6, 1-0 (5) at first.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 as the Blue Jays travel to Westminster, MD to take on the McDaniel Green Terror. The Centennial Conference match is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start.
