WESTMINSTER, MD - The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team lost just eight games en route to a 9-0 win over host McDaniel Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays win their ninth straight and improve to 13-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference. The Green Terror fall to 2-13 on the season and 0-7 in the conference with the loss.
Hopkins quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomore Kaitlin Pfisterer and senior Andrea Berlinghof won 8-1 over Kiersten Patron and Chelsea Barnett at first. Senior Ariel Several and junior Lauren Fields were 8-0 winners at second over Sophie White and Danielle Cloney. And at third, freshmen Kara McDonough and Staley Smith defeated Lauren Lewis and Angela Johnson, 8-0.
In singles play, Hopkins swept the six matches and no Blue Jay lost more than two games. Berlinghof won at first, beating Patron 6-1, 6-1. Pfisterer won by the same score at second over Barnett. Several picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cloney at third, while Fields won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth over White. The win for Several was the 50th overall for her career (37 singles, 13 doubles). At fifth, McDonough did not drop a game in her win over Lewis. Smith turned the same trick at sixth with a win over Nicole Arnold.
Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, April 20 as Muhlenberg visits the Homewood Campus. The Centennial Conference match is set for a 10:00 am start.
