BALTIMORE, MD - The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shut out visiting Gettysburg, 9-0, in Centennial Conference action Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 9-2 overall, as they run their win streak to five straight, and 3-0 in conference play. The Bullets meanwhile, fall to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the Centennial.
Freshman Nathan Law and sophomore Sam Weissler gave Hopkins a quick 1-0 lead after beating Will Ives and James Salierno, 8-0, at third doubles. Sophomore Edward Corty and freshman Nicholas Garcia followed with an 8-2 win over Johnny Nelson and Mike Pratt at second. Sophomore David Greenbaum and senior Andy Hersh closed out doubles with an 8-5 defeat of Chris Curran and Dave Musser at first.
Law lost just one game and was the first one off the court with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth over John Cronin. Greenbaum followed just a few minutes later after beating Ives 6-1, 6-0 at sixth to clinch the win. Corty did one better than Law and Greenbaum by winning 12 straight games to defeat Nelson at fourth by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Weissler pushed Hopkins' lead to 7-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Musser at second. Garcia followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at third over Pratt. Hersh closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Curran at first.
Hopkins returns to the court on Saturday, April 6 as the Blue Jays host the Ursinus Bears. The Centennial Conference match is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
