Eighth-Ranked Johns Hopkins Defeats Ursinus, 9-0

BALTIMORE, MD - Host and eight-ranked Johns Hopkins shutout Ursinus, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's tennis action. The Blue Jays dropped just 10 total games en route to winning their 10th match of the season. Hopkins improves to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 8-5 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

Seniors Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei quickly staked Hopkins to a 1-0 lead with an 8-0 defeat of David Rowe and Mike Melchiorre at third doubles. Freshman Nicholas Garcia and sophomore Noah Joachim then beat Tyler Arsenault and Dylan Marsh, 8-1, at second. Sophomores Tanner Brown and Erik Lim closed out doubles play with an 8-2 win at first over Evan Lord and Logan Metcalf-Kelly.

Joachim was the first off the court in singles for the Jays, as he beat Dalton Lynch 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Ben Hwang then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Marsh at second. Junior Joonas Karjalainen followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth over Melchiorre. Junior Jeremy Schwartz then beat Rowe 6-0, 6-0 at fifth. Sophomore Sam Weissler then earned his 11th win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Metcalf-Kelly at third. Hersh then matched Weissler in score and wins on the season, as he defeated Arsenault at first.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 10 as the Blue Jays travel to Lancaster, PA to take on the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats in a match-up of two undefeated Centennial Conference opponents. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
