Johns Hopkins Advances to Centennial Title Match

BALTIMORE, MD - Ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins defeated visiting Swarthmore, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Saturday morning to advance to its eighth straight conference title match. The Blue Jays improve to 18-2 on the season with their 14th straight win. The Garnet end their season at 10-10 overall.

Seniors Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei gave the Blue Jays their first point of the match with an 8-4 win at third doubles over Christian Carcione and Harrison Lands. Sophomores Tanner Brown and Erik Lim then defeated Max Kaye and Max Sacks, 8-4, at first. Freshman Nicholas Garcia and sophomore Noah Joachim wrapped up doubles play with an 8-3 defeat of Anthony Collard and Malik Mubeen at second.

Hersh was the first one of the court in singles play, defeating Sacks 6-1, 6-1 at second to push Hopkins lead to 4-0 in the match. The win is Hersh's fourth in conference tournament play and gives him 29 total conference wins (regular season and tournament) for his career, which ties him with David Maldow '10 for the program record. Sophomore Ben Hwang then clinched the win for the Jays with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kaye at third.

Hopkins will face third seeded Haverford in the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday, May 5. The title match is slated to start at 11:00 am at the JHU Tennis Courts. Sunday's meeting will be the sixth all-time in the tournament and first in the championship since 2008.
