LEXINGTON, VA - The 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team defeated host and 22nd-ranked Washington & Lee, 9-0, in non-conference action Sunday. The Blue Jays improve to 3-2 on the season while the Generals suffer their first loss of the season and fall to 5-1.

Freshman Jeremy Dubin and junior Tanner Brown picked up the first point of the match with an 8-1 win over Will Bannister and Jordan Krasner at third. Sophomore Nicholas Garcia and junior Noah Joachim then beat Christopher Hu and Thomas Johnson, 8-3, at second. The final doubles point came down to first, in a match-up of two of the top 10 doubles teams in the nation. Freshmen Michael Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh, ranked fifth, won a hard-fought 9-8 (5) match over 10th-ranked Taylor Shamshiri and Michael Holt to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.

Brown was the first one off the court in singles, dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hu at third. It was Brown's 77th career total win (singles and doubles), moving him into 11th in program history. Dubin then clinched the win at fourth as he beat Krasner 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Chris Jou earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at sixth over Will Banister to push Hopkins' lead to 6-0. Buxbaum followed with a close 7-6 (4), 6-4 defeat of Shamshiri at first. Junior Sam Weissler took a three-set win over Johnson at fifth, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Junior Ben Hwang then closed out the match with a come-from-behind 0-6, 7-6, 7-5 win at second over Holt.

Hopkins is back in action on March 21 as the Blue Jays take on the 23rd-ranked Bates Bobcats in Fredericksburg, VA. The match is slated to start at 4:00 pm.
