Box Score

WESTMINSTER, MD - Sophomore Cameron Bahr led McDaniel with three doubles and two RBIs, as the Green Terror held on to top Hopkins 5-2 on a cloudy Friday afternoon. Senior RHP Michael Casper allowed only one earned run and five hits in 6.2 innings of work to get his second win of the year, while sophomore reliever Zach Kronick held the Jays scoreless to earn the save. The loss snaps a 26-game win streak over the Green Terror for the Blue Jays, who fall to 14-9 (2-5 CC) on the season. McDaniel improves to 10-13 with the victory.

The Green Terror struck first in the bottom of the second, after a triple from junior Brandon Hayward scored a man from second. McDaniel tacked on another run in the third after Marshall Betts singled to pad the Green Terror advantage to 2-0. The hosts took a 3-0 lead in the sixth after a single from freshman Chris Morris scored a man from third, forcing the Jays to play from behind.

Hopkins rallied in the top of the seventh, as seniors John Maxwell and Jon Hettleman reached on a walk and single. After sophomore Raul Shah laid down a successful sacrifice bunt, both runners moved over to second and third with one out.

A long fly ball by freshman Conor Reynolds scored fellow freshman pinch runner Brian Lin from third, and an errant throw from the center fielder allowed Hettleman to score from second. After junior Chris Casey walked and junior Colin McCarthy reached on a single with two outs, JHU could not convert as a strikeout dealt by Kronick ended the inning.

McDaniel snatched its three run advantage right back in the bottom of the seventh, after two men reached base with one out. Bahr slapped his third double of the day down the right field line to score both runners and give his team a 5-2 lead before Hopkins could get out of the inning.

Despite getting two runners on in the top of the ninth, a strikeout and two groundouts sealed the first victory for McDaniel over Hopkins since a 2-1 win on April 13, 2001. It was also the first win for the Green Terror in Westminster since topping JHU 6-2 on April 12, 1999.

Hopkins will have a chance to stop the slide tomorrow when the team faces Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:30 pm.
