HAVERFORD, PA - The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shut out host Haverford, 9-0, on Saturday to knock the Fords from the ranks of the unbeaten in Centennial Conference play. The Blue Jays improve to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the Fords fall to 9-4 and 5-0 in the CC.
Junior Erik Lim and freshman Jeremy Dubin gave Hopkins a quick 1-0 lead in the match with an 8-3 win at third doubles over John Cummings and Robert Homan. Freshmen Michael Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh followed with a 9-7 win over Matt Romei and Sloan Millman at first. Sophomore Nicholas Garcia and junior Noah Joachim then beat Luis Acaba and Jacob Youse, 8-4, at second to close out doubles play.
Lim was the first one off the court in singles play as he beat Homan 6-1, 6-3 at fifth. Junior Ben Hwang then clinched the win for the Blue Jays as he lost just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win at second over Romei. Garcia followed with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Andy Dougherty at fourth. Junior Sam Weissler pushed Hopkins' lead to 7-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at sixth over Millman. Dubin turned in the same score in his win at third as he beat Youse. Buxbaum ended the match with a come-from-behind win at first. Acaba won the first set, 6-3, but Buxbaum responded with a 6-4 win in the second to force a third-set tiebreaker. Buxbaum won the breaker, 10-4, to take the win and complete the shutout.
Hopkins returns to the court on Wednesday, April 16 as the Blue Jays host the McDaniel Green Terror. The CC match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
