BALTIMORE, MD - The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shutout visiting McDaniel, 9-0, in Centennial Conference action Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays win their third straight, all by shutout, to improve to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the CC, while the Green Terror fall to 6-7 on the season and 1-6 in the conference.
Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. Freshman Jeremy Dubin and junior Erik Lim gave the Blue Jays the first point of the match with an 8-5 win at first over Satchel McCarthy and Seth McFall. Freshman Michael Buxbaum and junior Sam Weissler then beat Brian Kron and Matthew Langsdale, 8-2, at second. Seniors Jeremy Schwartz and German Gonzalez closed out doubles play with an 8-3 win at third over Philip Jorgensen and Daniel Xinis.
Dubin gave Hopkins a 4-0 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kron at first singles. Weissler then clinched the win as he dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at second over McFall. Junior Edward Corty followed with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of McCarthy at third. With the match decided, the final three matches were played in eight-game pro sets. Gonzalez earned an 8-1 win at sixth over Corey Glocker and Schwartz then beat Langsdale 8-2 at fourth. Senior Joonas Karjalainen wrapped up the match with an 8-1 win over Ryan Salomon at fifth.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, April 18 as the Blue Jays host the Swarthmore Garnet in a battle of the only two unbeatens in CC play. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
