GETTYSBURG, PA - The fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team lost just seven games en route to a 9-0 win over host Gettysburg in Centennial Conference action Wednesday. The Blue Jays win their fifth straight as they improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Bullets slip to 5-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
Juniors Noah Joachim and Sam Weissler got the Blue Jays off to a quick 1-0 lead with an 8-0 win at second doubles over Mike Pratt and Wiley Vehslage. Junior Edward Corty and freshman Jeff Mackenzie followed with an 8-3 over John Cronin and Kevin Roveda at third. Freshman Michael Buxbaum and junior Tanner Brown closed out doubles play as they beat Scott Johnson and Kevin DeRosa, 8-0, at first.
Hopkins took four of the six singles matches without dropping a game as the Jays lost just five games in the six matches. Mackenzie was the first one off the court in singles play as he beat Roveda 6-0, 6-0 at fifth. Brown then clinched the win at second with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Pratt. Corty and Weissler turned the same trick at sixth and fourth, respectively. Joachim was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at fourth over Cronin and Buxbaum closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Johnson at first.
Hopkins is back in action on Thursday, April 3 as the Blue Jays host the Swarthmore Garnet. The Centennial Conference match is slated to start at 4:00 pm.
