Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Christina DiFelice scored the game's only goal to give visiting the Rhodes field hockey team a 1-0 win over Johns Hopkins in the Blue Jays' home opener. The Blue Jays slip to 3-2 with the loss, while Lynx improve to 3-1.

The Blue Jays had a couple of great chances in the first half, but the Lynx defense and goalie Erin Bailey were able to keep the Jays at bay. Rhodes then capitalized on the other end converting off a penalty corner at 33:31. Shauni Cowan inserted the corner for the Lynx, sending the ball to the top of the circle. Grace Whelan then fired a shot from the top and Christina DiFelice redirected it in the middle of the circle, sweeping it inside the left post.

Hopkins continued to pressure on the offensive end in the second half but the Blue Jays could not find the equalizer. The Blue Jays had a great chance with less than 10 minutes to play when sophomore Clare Kavanagh tried to slip a shot inside the near post, but Morgan Woodrow was hugging the post for the Lynx and cleared it. Kavanagh collected the rebound and blasted another shot on cage, aiming for the right post. But a quick pad from Bailey deflected the shot wide.

Freshman Greta Helvie took the loss in the goal while Bailey earned the win for the Lynx with six saves. Hopkins outshot Rhodes, 20-2, and had 10 corners to just two for the visitors.

Hopkins is back in action on Sunday, September 14 as the Blue Jays host the ninth-ranked TCNJ Lions. The non-conference tilt is slated for a 4:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
