ST. PETER, MN - The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team rallied from a 4-1 deficit, but ultimately lost to third-ranked Trinity (TX), 6-3, in the semifinals of the 2015 ITA National Indoor Team Championship Saturday night. The Blue Jays slip to 1-2 on the season while the Tigers improve to 6-2 and will face the Eagles of Emory in the championship match.

Trinity took the early 1-0 lead after Jordan Mayer and Aaron Skinner beat sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh, 8-1, at first. Hopkins answered when junior Nicholas Garcia and senior Noah Joachim won 9-8 at third over Charlie Curtis and Chas Mayer. The Tigers grabbed the final doubles point however, to take a 2-1 lead, as Clayton Neiss and Adam Krull defeated seniors Tanner Brown and Erik Lim, 8-4 at second.

Skinner pushed Trinity's lead to 3-1 in the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at second over sophomore Jeremy Dubin. Mayer then beat senior Ben Hwang by a 6-1, 6-3 score at third to push the Tigers' lead to 4-1 and just one point from victory. The Blue Jays weren't going away just yet as Buxbaum cut into the deficit with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Krull at first. Joachim then beat Neiss 7-5, 6-3 at fourth and the Tigers' lead was just one. At fifth singles, Lim took his first set 6-3, but Curtis battled back to force a third with a 7-6 win in the second. Curtis then took the deciding set, 6-2, to clinch the Tigers' win. At six, Brown won his first set, 6-4, but Mayer answered with a 6-4 win in the second and third sets to close out Trinity's win.

Hopkins will return to the court on Sunday to take on Washington University in the third-place match. The match is slated for a 9:00 am CT start at the Swanson Tennis Center. Fans can follow along with video and live stats here: https://gustavus.edu/athletics/mt/ITA/2015/results.php
