LEXINGTON, VA - The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over host Washington & Lee Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 2-3 on the season while the Generals lose their season opener.
Hopkins swept the doubles to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. Sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh won 8-5 at first over Michael Holt and Christopher Hu. At second, seniors Tanner Brown and Erik Lim lost just one game in an 8-1 win over Joe Siami and Brian Krouskos. Junior Nicholas Garcia and senior Noah Joachim earned an 8-2 win at third over Will Bannister and Jordan Krasner.
In singles play, Hopkins took the first two matches in straight sets. Sophomore Jeremy Dubin bested Hu 7-5, 6-3 at first. Senior Ben Hwang was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at second over Krasner. Joachim battled for a three-set win at third, defeating Holt 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-2. Brown also won in straight sets, with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Krouskos. At fifth and sixth, the teams did not finish the matches as the Generals had a second match to play that day. At fifth, Walsh took his first set 6-4 and was up 4-3 in the second set. At sixth, senior Edward Corty took the first set 6-3, and was ahead 3-1 in the second versus Siami.
Hopkins returns to action and will debut its new facility on March 20 against second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
