Johns Hopkins Takes Down Haverford, 8-1

HAVERFORD, PA - The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat host Haverford, 8-1, in Centennial Conference action Saturday. The Blue Jays improve to 10-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the Fords fall to 7-4 and 4-2.

Sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead as they beat Dais Nakayama and Ishaan Prinz, 8-1, at second doubles. Freshman Jacob Lin and senior Tanner Brown pushed the lead to two with an 8-3 win over Eli Phelps and Benjamin Soloway at third. Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert cut the deficit in half when they beat sophomore Jeremy Dubin and senior Noah Joachim, 8-4, at first.

Buxbaum was up 3-0 at first singles when Acaba retired to give Hopkins a 3-1 lead. Brown then won at fifth, losing just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Prinz. It was the 107th win combined for Brown, moving him into seventh all-time in program history. Senior Jensen Reiter then clinched the win for the Blue Jays with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at sixth over Caleb Mayer. Senior Ben Hwang followed with a win by the same score at third over Zach Mason. Joachim then beat Elbert at fourth 6-3, 6-1 and Dubin closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Nakayama at second.

Hopkins is back in action on Sunday, April 12 as the Blue Jays travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
