PITTSBURGH, PA - The host and 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon men's tennis team beat Johns Hopkins, 7-2, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays see their six-match win streak snapped as they fall to 10-6 on the season. The Tartans improve to 14-7 with their second straight win.
Carnegie Mellon swept the doubles to jump out to a 3-0 lead but Hopkins gave the Tartans a battle. Kenny Zheng and Edward Ang grabbed the first point of the match with an 8-6 win over seniors Tanner Brown and Erik Lim at third. Will Duncan and Christian Heaney-Secord then edged sophomore Jeremy Dubin and senior Noah Joachim, 9-8 (3) at first. Bryce Beisswanger and Yuvraj Kumar closed out doubles with a 9-7 decision over sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh.
Abhishek Alla opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 win at first over Buxbaum. Duncan then clinched the win for the home team as he beat senior Ben Hwang 6-4, 6-4 at third. Heaney-Secord followed with a come-from-behind win over Dubin at second 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5). Brown picked up a point for Hopkins at fifth as he beat Zheng 6-0, 1-6, 6-3. Senior Jensen Reiter grabbed a second point for the Blue Jays with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (7) win at sixth over Kiril Kirkov. Kunal Wadwani wrapped up the match at fourth as he rallied to beat Joachim 6-7 (9), 6-2, 1-0 (2).
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 18 as the Blue Jays host the Muhlenberg Mules and the Mary Washington Eagles.
