Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays had an offensive showcase against the Catholic University Cardinals, banging out 20 hits, a season-high and a high in Babb Field history, en route to a 12-3 win.

Conor Reynolds got things going for the Jays in the first with a leadoff homer for the Jays. The homer was the first of the season for the Baltimore native.

After the Cardinals responded with two runs of their own in the top-half of the second, the Jays responded in their half of the inning.

Starting just his second game of the season, Jon Hayden clobbered a one out double down the line in right field, putting himself in scoring position. Hayden scored on a Raul Shah single, as the big man ran right through Coach Babb's stop sign at third, sliding home and tying the game at two.

In the third, Colin McCarthy got things going for the Jays with a one out double. McCarthy moved to third on single by Hoelzer before scoring on a Dan Albert base hit, giving the Jays a 3-1 lead.

Hopkins pushed the lead to 4-1 in the fourth with consecutive doubles by David Mampre and Reynolds, before exploding for a four run sixth.

Mampre started things out with a single to left and Reynolds followed by getting hit by a pitch. Thomas Mee loaded the bases with a bunt single. McCarthy and Dan Albert sandwiched one run singles around a strikeout by Hoelzer.

Mike Smith added two more for the Jays as he doubled down the left field line, scoring both Mee and McCarthy and giving the Jays an 8-3 lead.

Hopkins added four more in the eighth. With Albert on second, having reached on an error, and Smith on first courtesy of being plunked in the back, Hayden ripped a double to center scoring Albert and moving Smith to third.

With runners sitting on second and third, Raul Shah punched a single to the outfield, clearing the bases and giving Hopkins an 11-3 advantage. After a Mampre single, Zach Jaffe was beaned to load the bases. In his first at-bat of the day, Chris DeGiacomo was walked, scoring Mampre and giving DeGiacomo his first RBI of the season, putting the score to 12-3 where it would stay.
