BALTIMORE, MD - The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team prevailed in a battle of unbeaten Wednesday afternoon in a 9-0 win over 27th-ranked Swarthmore. The Blue Jays improved to 11-6 overall and are now the only unbeaten team in the Centennial Conference with an unbeaten 6-0 record. The Garnet fall to 9-5 on the season, snapping their four-game win streak, and 5-1 in the CC.
Hopkins jumped on Swarthmore early as sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh lost just one game in an 8-1 win over Josh Powell and Harrison Lands at second doubles. Seniors Tanner Brown and Erik Lim followed with an 8-4 decision over Michael Song and Blake Oetting at third. Sophomore Jeremy Dubin and senior Noah Joachim completed the sweep of doubles as they beat Mark Fallati and Ari Cepelewicz 8-4 at first.
Buxbaum picked up the first singles point as well, dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win at first over John Larkin. Brown then clinched the win for the Blue Jays as he beat Oetting 6-4, 6-0 at fourth. Senior Jensen Reiter followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fifth over Powell. Lim ground out a first set win over Yosuke Higashi before cruising to the straight sets win 7-6 (5), 6-1 at sixth. The Blue Jays then grabbed a pair of three-set wins to complete the shutout. Senior Ben Hwang came from behind to beat Fallati 6-7 (4), 6-0, 1-0 (5) at first. Joachim closed out the match with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (5) win at third over Cepelewicz.
Hopkins is back on the court on Saturday, April 18 as JHU hosts Muhlenberg and Mary Washington. The matches are slated for 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
