BALTIMORE, MD - The first win at Babb Field was not an easy one for the Blue Jays, as the team rallied from a three run deficit in the eighth to stun the visiting Dickinson Red Devils, 10-8.
After the Red Devils put up a four spot in the top-half of the eighth, the tension was palpable at Babb Field. Joe Conlon got things started with a leadoff double for the Jays, his second of the game. Ryan Orgielewicz followed suit with a single, pushing Conlon to third.
Jake Rogers, pinch hitting for TJ Gordon, struck out in the following at-bat. Raul Shah hit a pinch hit single to center, scoring Conlon from third and pushing Zach Robbins, who pinch ran for Orgielewicz, to second.
With runners on first and second and one out, Conor Reynolds stepped in and flew out to center. Chris Casey drew a walk in the next at-bat, loading the bases for Colin McCarthy.
The Westport, CT native stepped in with the bases full and two outs, and hit a chopper back to the mound that Tyler Clauson-Wolf bobbled and was ultimately unable to make a play on, resulting in Robbins scoring and everybody safe.
With the Jays down 8-7 and the bases still loaded, Craig Hoelzer stepped in and ripped a two out, two run single to left, scoring Shah and Casey and moving McCarthy to third.
The two out scoring run continued as Mike Smith jumped all over a pitch and laced a ground rule double to right center, scoring McCarthy, and giving the Jays a 10-8 lead.
Jake Enterlin entered the game in the ninth for the save attempt, and recorded a quick 1-2-3 inning, including two strike outs, shutting the door on any thought of a comeback the Red Devils may have had.
Hopkins got on the board early, with two one-run innings in the second and third. Dickinson responded with a three-run fourth, taking a 3-2 lead. The Red Devils added a run in the fifth, before the Jays answered with three of their own.
Trailing 5-4 heading into the eighth the Red Devils jumped on Jonathan Oliveros, tagging him for two hits, while capitalizing on a passed ball and throwing error, putting two more on the board and seizing momentum before the Jays erupted in the bottom-half of the inning.
The 2-5 hitters for the Jays combined for eight rbi. The group of Casey, McCarthy, Hoelzer, an Smith finished with six hits, including two doubles.
Thomas Harper earned the win for the Jays, after coming in for Oliveros in the eighth and pitching a 0.2 inning for the hosts.
