Johns Hopkins Tops Haverford, 5-0, in Centennial Semifinals

BALTIMORE, MD - The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team defeated visiting Haverford, 5-0, in the semifinals of the 2015 Centennial Conference Tournament Saturday morning at the JHU Tennis Courts. The top-seeded Blue Jays improve to 16-7 while the fourth-seeded Fords see their season end at 11-6. Hopkins is seeking its ninth consecutive CC title and 10th overall.

Hopkins jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Seniors Edward Corty and Erik Lim grabbed the first point of the match as the pair beat Eli Phelps and Benjamin Soloway at third. The win was Corty's 25th career doubles win and 50th overall win. Sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh followed with an 8-3 win over Dais Nakayama and Ishaan Prinz at second. Sophomore Jeremy Dubin and junior Nicholas Garcia closed out doubles and completed the sweep at first in an 8-3 win over Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert.

Dubin earned the first singles point, pushing Hopkins to a 4-0 lead, as he beat Zack Mason 6-1, 6-0 at third. Senior Tanner Brown then clinched the win for the Blue Jays without dropping a set in his win over Caleb Mayer at sixth.

Hopkins will face Swarthmore, for the fifth time, in the CC title match on Sunday at the JHU Tennis Courts. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start. The winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Fans can follow the action .
