BALTIMORE, MD -- The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team defeated #31st-ranked Swarthmore, 5-0, in the championship match of the 2015 Centennial Conference Tournament. It is the 10th overall and ninth consecutive Centennial Conference title for the Blue Jays as they improve to 17-7 on the season. It is also the 100th Centennial Conference championship in school history. The Garnet end their season with a 13-6 record.
Hopkins took a quick 1-0 lead in the match as seniors Tanner Brown and Erik Lim did not lose a game in beating John Larkin and Blake Oetting at third doubles. The win for Brown was his 55th career doubles win and moves him into seventh in school history. Sophomores Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh then beat Harrison Lands and Josh Powell by an 8-3 score at second to double the Blue Jays' lead. Sophomore Jeremy Dubin and junior Nicholas Garcia completed the doubles sweep as they won 8-5 at first over Ari Cepelewicz and Mark Fallati.
Brown grabbed the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth over Michael Song. Senior Jensen Reiter then clinched the win and the title without dropping a game at fifth over Yosuke Higashi. Reiter would go on to earn tournament MVP honors.
Hopkins earns its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance and will learn its fate on Monday. The tournament bracket is scheduled for release at 12:00 pm ET here.
