LEXINGTON, VA – The 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat host and 31st-ranked Washington & Lee, 6-3, on Sunday morning. The Blue Jays improve to 4-0 on the and win their fifth straight over the Generals (5-2). Junior Emerson Walsh clinched the win for Hopkins with a straight sets wins at fourth.
Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles. Walsh and senior Nicholas Garcia took the first point of the match with an 8-3 win at second over Will Banister and Jordan Krasner. Juniors Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin then beat Perry Clements and Michael Holt, 8-5, at first. Sophomore Justin Kang and freshman Scott Thygesen closed out doubles when they beat Joe Siami and Thomas Johnson, 8-5, at third.
In singles play, Krasner made it a 3-1 match as he beat Garcia 6-0, 6-1 at second. Kang pushed Hopkins one point closer to victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Siami at third. Walsh then defeated Johnson 6-2, 6-3 at fourth to clinch the win for the Blue Jays. Holt prevailed over Thygesen in a marathon of a match at first – 7-6 (5), 6-7 (2), 1-0 (6). Freshman Eshan Dave made it 6-2 when he beat Zach Ely 6-1, 6-3 at sixth. Bannister wrapped up the match at fifth with a 6-4, 6-3 win over sophomore David Perez.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, March 20 as the Blue Jays host the Bates Bobcats. The non-conference match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
