How it Happened:
-After getting held off the scoreboard Saturday, Hopkins struck with the first run on Sunday. Tommy Mee led off the bottom of the third with a single and then stole second base. Mitch Weaver hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher which moved Mee over to third base. Mee scored on a wild pitch to give Hopkins a 1-0 lead.
- The Blue Jays have had trouble holding oppositions off the scoreboard following half innings where they score. This was the case again Sunday as Cortland tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Trevor Williams was able to get the first two Red Dragons out in the half inning and it appeared he would get the final out with a ground ball to shortstop, but a Conor Reynolds throw pulled Daniel Albert off first base and Cortland took advantage. The Dragons followed the error with two straight singles to score a pair of runners.
-Cortland tacked on another run in the top of the fifth when Conrad Ziemendorf singled home Steven Figueroa.
- Mitch Weaver cut the Red Dragons' lead in half with a home run in the bottom of the fifth. It was the senior's fifth career home run.
- The Red Dragons scored their fourth and final run in the top of the sixth.
- Both bullpens were impressive down the stretch as neither team scored a run during the final threeinnings.
JHU Highlights:
- Williams only had one strikeout in his five innings of work, but it was the 100th strikeout of his career.
- Nick Burns came in to pitch with two outs in the sixth and got out of the inning without throwing a pitcher. The sophomore picked off a runner to get out of the inning and then stayed on the mound to get the first out in the seventh.
- Carter Burns and Ross Lazicky pitched the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. The duo combined to allow just one hit and struck out three Red Dragons.
