Emerson Walsh clinched the win for the Blue Jays.
BALTIMORE, MD – The 21st-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shutout visiting 26th-ranked Franklin & Marshall Tuesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 9-3 on the season, including 4-1 in the conference, while handing the Diplomats (11-2) their first conference loss (4-1).
Hopkins swept the doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Justin Kang and freshman Scott Thygesen grabbed the first point with an 8-6 win over Zack Levin and Isaac Salas at third. Juniors Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin then won by the same score at first over Doug Kaplan and Jack Rothman. Senior Nicholas Garcia and junior Emerson Walsh closed out doubles as they beat Inigo Flores and Vasant Rajamanickam, 8-2, at second.
Dubin pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 4-0 when he beat Levin 6-4, 6-0 at second singles. Walsh then clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at sixth over Will Samuels. First singles saw a match-up of players ranked in the top 15 in the Atlantic South and Buxbaum came out on top with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kaplan. Sophomore David Perez beat Salas 6-1, 6-4 at fourth to give Hopkins a 7-0 lead. Garcia followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at third over Rothman and Kang ended the match when he beat Flores 7-5, 6-2 at fifth.
Hopkins returns to the court on Friday, April 15 as the Blue Jays take on the top-ranked Emory Eagles. The two will square off in Fredericksburg, VA at 5:00 pm.
