FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Top-ranked Emory took a 2-1 lead after doubles and went on to beat the 28th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team, 7-2, on Friday. The Blue Jays slip to 9-4 with the loss while the Eagles improve to 15-3 on the season.
The Eagles grabbed the first two doubles points with wins at second and third to take the early lead. Andrew Harrington and David Omsky opened the match with an 8-1 win over sophomore Justin Kang and freshman Scott Thygesen at third. Rafe Mosetick and Jonathan Jemison followed with an 8-4 win at second over senior Nicholas Garcia and junior Emerson Walsh. Juniors Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin cut the deficit in half as the pair beat Scott Rubinstein and James Spaulding, 8-4, at first. It was Buxbaum's 105th career win (singles and doubles), tying him for ninth in program history.
Adrien Bouchet opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win over sophomore David Perez at fourth. Josh Goodman then beat Kang 6-3, 6-3 at fifth to make it 4-1 Eagles. Aman Manji clinched the win for Emory with a 6-4, 6-3 win at third over Thygesen and Jemison then beat Dubin 7-6 (6), 6-4 at second. First singles saw a match-up of players ranked in the top-10 nationally, with Mosetick defeated Buxbaum in a close one – 6-5, 7-6 (9). Walsh picked up the Blue Jays' second point of the match as he beat Harrington 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 at sixth.
Hopkins returns to the court on Saturday as the Blue Jays host the Haverford Fords. The Centennial Conference match is set for a Noon start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
