28th-ranked Johns Hopkins Defeats Haverford, 8-1

BALTIMORE, MD – The 28th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat visiting Haverford, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Fords suffer just their second loss of the season (11-2, 5-1 CC).

Hopkins swept the doubles matches, losing a total of nine matches, to jump out to a 3-0 lead on Haverford. Senior Nicholas Garcia and junior Emerson Walsh earned the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at third over Eli Phelps and Ishaan Prinz. Juniors Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin followed with a win at first as they beat Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert, 8-3. Buxbaum earned his 106th career win (singles and doubles) to move into a tie with Joe Vasoontara for eighth in program history. Freshman Eshan Dave and sophomore David Perez closed out doubles with an 8-3 victory over Josh Moskovitz and Dais Nakayama at second.

Sophomore Justin Kang lost just one game in his match at fourth singles as he defeated Prinz to push the Blue Jays lead to 4-0. Moskovitz then grabbed the lone point of the match for the Fords as he beat freshman Scott Thygesen 6-3, 6-0 at second. Perez clinched the win for Hopkins with a 6-3, 6-1 win at third over Elbert. Dave then topped Zack Mason 6-3, 6-2 at fifth and Garcia won 7-5, 6-1 over Nakayama at first. Freshman Nakul Narendran ended the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) defeat of Phelps at sixth.

Hopkins is back in action on Sunday, April 17 as the Blue Jays play their third match in as many days. Hopkins will travel to Fredericksburg, VA to take on host and 26th-ranked Mary Washington at 1:00 pm.
