Johns Hopkins Bests NC Wesleyan and Muhlenberg

BALTIMORE, MD – The 28th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Sunday versus 40th-ranked NC Wesleyan and Muhlenberg. The Blue Jays beat the visiting Battling Bishops, 8-1, and the host Mules, 9-0. Hopkins is now 12-5 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial Conference.

At home, Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead on NC Wesleyan with a sweep of the doubles. Senior Nicholas Garcia and junior Emerson Walsh earned the first point of the match as they beat Mikhail Konnov and J.D. Telles, 8-1, at second. Junior Jeremy Dubin and sophomore Justin Kang then defeated Ioannis Brokakis and Eduardo Ugalde, 8-3, at third. Sophomore David Perez and freshman Scott Thygesen completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Peter Hviid and Sebastian Sikh at first.

Walsh dropped just two games to beat Henry Lam 6-2, 6-0 at sixth singles. Kang then clinched the win as he beat Konnov 6-2, 6-1 at fifth. Perez followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Telles at third. Dubin held on in three sets to beat Brokakis at second 6-2, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (5). Garcia also won in three sets, beating 28th-ranked Sikh 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (3) at first. Mark Sokolov picked up the lone NC Wesleyan point as he beat Thygesen in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (8).

Meanwhile in Allentown, the Blue Jays lost a total of just six games en route to the shutout. Senior Nathan Law and sophomore Jacob Lin won the first point of the match with an 8-0 win at third doubles over Nicholas Oliveti and Matthew Maycock. Junior Mike Buxbaum and freshman Eshan Dave then beat Mickey Schindler and Jordan Greene, 8-2, at first. Junior Jeff Mackenzie and freshman Colin Muraika closed out doubles with an 8-0 win over Steven Shoemaker and Jon Yandle at second.

Dave pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 as he beat Greene 6-1, 6-0 at second singles. Buxbaum then clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Schindler at first. Muraika followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at third over Oliveti. At fifth, Law did not drop a game in his win over Yandle. Freshman Rod Saad turned the same trick in a win over Maycock at sixth.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday as the Blue Jays travel to Westminster, MD to take on the McDaniel Green Terror. The conference tilt is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
