BALTIMORE, MD- The 26th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shutout visiting Washington College 9-0 in a Centennial Conference match Saturday. Hopkins improves to 14-5 overall this season and finishes its CC regular season slate with an 8-1 record.
Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin earned an 8-2 victory at first doubles . At second doubles, David Perez and Scott Thygesen defeated their Shoremen opponents 8-1, while teammates Colin Muraika and Jeff Mackenzie recorded an 8-5 victory at third doubles.
Hopkins swept singles competition as well, led by Buxbaum who picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win at first singles. Perez was the only Blue Jay who needed three sets to get a win and defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 10-8. Nicholas Garcia (6-0, 6-1) and Justin Kang (6-0, 6-0) dominated at third and fourth singles, respectively. At fifth singles it was Mackenzie who earned the win for the Jays, winning 6-1, 6-4. Nathan Law closed out singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The Blue Jays will be back in action Saturday when they head to Swarthmore for a Centennial Conference Tournament semifinal match against Haverford. Hopkins beat the Fords 8-1 earlier this season in Baltimore.
