Johns Hopkins Tops #38 TCNJ and Gettysburg

BALTIMORE, MD - The 21st-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Wednesday afternoon, defeating 38th-ranked TCNJ (6-3) and Gettysburg (9-0). The Blue Jays improve to 7-2 on the season, including 2-1 in the Centennial Conference.

In Gettysburg, Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles. Sophomore David Perez and freshman Nakul Narendran earned a 9-8 (6) win at first over Wes Craft and Dave Musser. At second, senior Nathan Law and freshman Colin Muraika beat Christian Deschapelles and Nick D'Amore, 8-4. Freshmen Eshan Dave and Rod Saad defeated Kevin Maier and Wiley Vehslage, 8-6, at third.

In singles play, Hopkins swept the six matches in straight sets. Perez beat Musser 6-2, 6-2 at first while Dave did not lose a game in his win over Deschapelles at second. Muraika was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Craft at third and Narendran topped D'Amore 6-1, 6-2 at fourth. Law, who clinched the win, beat Maier 6-1, 6-2 at fifth and Saad defeated Kevin DeRosa 6-4, 6-4 at sixth.

Meanwhile in Baltimore, Hopkins rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat TCNJ for the second straight meeting. Jack August and Mike Stanley grabbed a 9-8 (4) win over juniors Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin at first doubles. Pierce Cooper and Mitchel Sanders won at second over senior Nicholas Garcia and junior Emerson Walsh, 8-4. Sophomore Justin Kang and freshman Scott Thygesen prevents the Lions' sweep of doubles with an 8-5 win over Tim Gavornik and Matt Puig at third.

The Blue Jays rebounded to win five of the six singles matches to earn the win. Buxbaum lost just one game as he beat Cooper 6-1, 6-0 at first. Dubin also won in straight sets, beating Sanders 6-2, 6-2 at second. August took another point for TCNJ, as he beat freshman Thygesen 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at third. Kang also won in three sets, beating Stanley 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 at fourth. Garcia defeated Chris D'Agostino 6-3, 6-3 at fifth and Walsh lost just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth over Omar Bokhari.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 9 as the Blue Jays travel to Collegeville, PA to take on the Ursinus Bears. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
