• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team defeated host Washington & Lee, 6-3, on Sunday morning in the Blue Jays' spring opener.
How it Happened
• Junior David Perez and sophomore Scott Thygesen put Hopkins on top early with an 8-2 win over Mitchell Thomas and Justin Gillette at third doubles.
• Seniors Mike Buxbaum and Jeremy Dubin followed with an 8-6 win over Will Bannister and Jordan Krasner at first.
• The Generals cut into the Blue Jays' lead when Mac Zheng and Thomas Harmon beat freshman Joseph Cartledge and senior Emerson Walsh, 8-6, at second.
• Dubin pushed Hopkins' lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Bannister at second.
• Buxbaum followed with a 7-5, 6-3 defeat of Krasner at first.
• Ely picked up the Generals' second point of the match as he beat freshman Austin Gu 6-2, 6-2 at third.
• Perez then clinched the win for the Blue Jays with a 7-6, (5), 6-4 in over Thomas at fourth.
• Zheng made it a 5-3 match as he rallied to beat Walsh 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 at fifth.
• Carey closed out the match with a come-from-behind win over Harmon at sixth. He won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 11-9.
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 7-3 all-time against Washington & Lee. The Blue Jays have won six straight in the series and are 4-0 against the Generals in Lexington.
For the Record
• Buxbaum is now tied for fifth in school history with 135 combined wins. He needs one win to tie Jacob Barnaby for fourth and three to tie Casey Blythe for third.
• Dubin is tied for 11th in program history with 47 career singles wins.
