The Short Story
- The Johns Hopkins baseball team came out strong against 13th-ranked Wooster (OH), but the Fighting Scots mounted a comeback against the Blue Jays to earn the victory, 11-8. Senior Ryan Orgielewicz led JHU with three hits, three RBI and three runs in the game.
- The Blue Jays came out to face Wooster starter Nanak Saran, but he was quickly pulled after walking Mike Eberle and Brian Lin and hitting Mike Smith with a pitch. With the bases loaded, Wyatt Linde took over at the mound for the Fighting Scots. Ryan Orgielewicz stepped up to the plate and hit a two RBI double to right field. Hopkins added to its lead as Linde walked Alex Darwiche to load the bases once again and Daniel Albert to send Smith home. As the eighth batter up in the inning, Dillon Bowman hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Orgielewicz, giving the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead.
- Wooster added three runs of its own in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Preston Betz walked a pair and Joe Conlon committed a fielding error to allow Strausbaugh to come home. With Fighting Scots on second and third, Crum hit a two RBI double to left center, cutting JHU's lead to 4-3 after one inning.
- The score sat at 4-3 until the Blue Jays added another run in the top of the fifth. Orgielewicz hit a leadoff single to center field before advancing to second and third on a pair of wild pitches by Linde. Alec Hammond entered the game for Wooster and gave up double down the right field line by Conlon, which drove in Orgielewicz for the 5-3 JHU lead
- The Fighting Scots took over the lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a fly out by leadoff man Fling, Betz walked Strausbaugh, hit Wielansky with a pitch and gave up back-to-back singles for Wooster to tie the score, 5-5. Betz loaded the bases as he hit Ostendorf with a pitch before Sean McCracken took over pitching duties for Hopkins. Tornow reached first base on a fielder's choice, which allowed Lackner to round home for the 6-5 Wooster lead.
- Wooster added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth after striking out a pair of Blue Jays to end the top of the sixth without a Hopkins respons. Dippman singled to right center to begin the bottom of the sixth, and Fling knocked a ground-rule double to right field to put a Fighting Scot on second and third. Dippman made his way home on a ground out by Strausbaugh before Fling scored on a single up the middle by Wielansky, giving Wooster an 8-5 lead.
- The Fighting Scots tacked on three runs in an inning for the third time in the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Bowman threw to Albert for the ground out by Dippman, but a double by Fling and single by Strausbaugh increased Wooster's lead to 9-5. Singles by Lackner and Harwood accounted for the other two RBI in the inning.
- The Blue Jays stepped up to the plate trailing 11-5 in the top of the ninth. Facing Michael Whitaker, Hopkins sent out three pinch hitters to begin the inning. Zach Robbins struck out in the leadoff spot before Jon Hayden hit a ground-rule double to center field. Colby Wilson singled to left field to advance Hayden to third. Orgielewicz recorded the third straight hit for JHU and his third of the game as he doubled down the right field line to send Hayden home. Conlon knocked a single through the left side to add a pair of Blue Jay runs as Wilson and Orgielewicz rounded home. A pair of fly outs concluded the comeback attempt for Hopkins with the final score of 11-8.
