Johns Hopkins Downs Swarthmore, Secures Centennial Top Seed

• The Short Story: On the final day of the regular season and in a meeting of the last two undefeated teams in the Centennial Conference, Johns Hopkins prevailed, 7-2, over host Swarthmore. The Blue Jays secured the top seed and the right to host the CC Tournament with the win.

How it Happened
• Hopkins swept the doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead over Swarthmore. Senior Jeremy Dubin and freshman Joseph Cartledge won a hard-fought match at first over Mark Fallati and Josh Powell, 9-8 (3).
• Senior Emerson Walsh and junior Justin Kang won 8-4 at second over Ari Cepelewicz and Thomas Vernier. Junior David Perez and sophomore Scott Thygesen beat Blake Oetting and John Lark 8-6, at third.
• Larkin picked up the Garnet's first point of the match has he won at second singles when Thygesen was forced to retire. Walsh then beat Simon Vernier at third 6-3, 6-2 to push the Blue Jays' lead to 4-1.
• Freshman Aaron Carey then clinched the win and the regular season championship with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Michael Song at sixth. Dubin followed with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Fallati at first.
• Perez grabbed a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Powell at fourth. Cepelewicz earned another point for the Garnet as he edged freshman Cody Kim 7-5, 7-6 (6).

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 19-26 all-time against Swarthmore and has won two straight and 17 of the last 18.
• The Blue Jays finish the season unbeaten in conference play for the 11th time in the last 13 seasons. The Jays are now 102-3 in regular season Centennial matches under head coach Chuck Willenborg.

For the Record
• Dubin is now tied for seventh in program history with 53 career singles wins. He also ranks 12th with 102 combined career wins.
• Walsh moved into a tie for 10th with his 105th career win.

Up Next
• Hopkins will host the 2017 Centennial Conference Tournament on May 6 and 7. JHU will face the winner of Washington College and Franklin & Marshall in Saturday's semifinal. The start time for the match is yet to be determined.
