• The Short Story: The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team defeated 30th-ranked Christopher Newport, 5-1, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday morning.

How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed a 3-0 lead in the match with a sweep of doubles. Senior Emerson Walsh and junior Justin Kang needed just 10 games to take the first point of the match as they beat Andy Mason and William Trang, 8-2, at second.
• Freshman Cody Kim and junior David Perez followed with a come-from-behind win at third. The pair trailed 5-4 but rallied to beat Michael Dodd and Arttu Fiva, 8-6. Senior Jeremy Dubin and freshman Joseph Cartledge then closed out doubles with an 8-6 win over Justin Cerny and David Reed in a battle of two of the top four teams in the Atlantic South.
• Perez was the first one off the court in singles to put the Blue Jays up 4-0. He trailed 4-1 in the first set to Mason, but rallied to win 7-5. Perez then won 6-1 in the second set to take the win.
• Dominic Lacombe got the Captains on the board as he defeated Kim 6-4, 6-0 at fourth singles. Dubin then clinched the win at first as he defeated Reed 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
• In the other matches, Walsh dropped his first set 6-4 at second, but won the second by the same score and was leading 1-0 in the third. At fifth, freshman Aaron Carey lost his first set 7-5, but was leading 4-1 in the second. And at sixth, Kang was up 3-1 in the first set.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 5-1 all-time against Christopher Newport in the first meeting between the two in the NCAA Tournament. It is the Blue Jays' second win over the Captains this season as JHU beat CNU 8-1 on April 15.
• Hopkins advances to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the ninth straight year and 10th time in the last 11 years. The Blue Jays are 4-5 in NCAA Sweet 16 matches.

For the Record
• Dubin earned his sixth NCAA Tournament singles win, tying Ben Hwang's school record. He also moved into a tie with Mike Buxbaum with his 13th combined win in the NCAA Tournament. Dubin's two wins give him 106 total for his career, tied for 10th in school history.
• Walsh moved into a tie for second in school history with his eighth NCAA Tournament doubles win. He is one win shy of tying Nicholas Garcia's record. Walsh earned his 80th career doubles win, making him just the third player in program history to do so.

• Hopkins will take on seventh-ranked Wesleyan in the NCAA Sweet 16 on Sunday. The match is slated for a Noon start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
