• The Short Story: Led by four RBIs from
Zach Jaffe, the Johns Hopkins baseball team won its second straight game as the Blue Jays defeated St. Lawrence, 7-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
How it Happened
• James Cronin put the Saints on the board in the second as his RBI double scored Tyler Guido to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead.
• The Saints added two more runs in the second inning on a two-RBI single from Brendon Frank to go up 3-0.
• JHU got to within one run in the bottom of the frame as
Tim Kutcher worked his second walk of the day and advanced to second on a single from Jaffe.
Alex Darwiche reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and second for
Mike Smith who doubled to left to score Jaffe and Darwiche.
• Kutcher led off the bottom of the fifth with another walk and scored on Jaffe's homer to left which gave the Blue Jays their first lead of the day at 4-3.
• Back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth for St. Lawrence put McCracken in a jam, however, he got a fielder's choice which put runners on the corners with one out.
Nick Bodner came out of the pen and got the next two batters swinging to preserve the one-run lead.
• Jaffe knocked in two more runners in the sixth as
Mike Eberle and
Chris DeGiacomo scored on his two-out single to left to make the score 6-3.
• With the bases loaded in the eighth, Smith was hit by a pitch to score DeGiacomo and increase the Hopkins lead to 7-3.
• Bodner gave up a bunt single with one out in the ninth, but he got the final two outs to give Johns Hopkins the 7-3 win.
