Box Score

The Basics
• Score: JHU â€" 7, Denison - 6
• Records: Johns Hopkins (10-6) • Denison (7-5)
• Location: Fort Myers, FL (Terry Park)
• Pitching Decision: W â€" Jack Bunting (1-1) • L â€" John Troll (2-2)
• The Short Story: Down 4-1 in the bottom of the third, the Johns Hopkins baseball team rallied to score six straight runs as Hopkins won its third straight contest, defeating Denison 7-6.

How it Happened
• The Big Red got an early run off Hopkins starter Preston Betz in the first on a Will Kruchena double to left.
• Denison scored three more runs in the third as the first batters of the inning all reached base. Ty Johnson doubled to left-center to score two while Grady Paine singled to center to make the score 3-1. Betz was able to get out of the inning as he got Jake Ryder swinging to end the frame.
Mike Ainsworth led off the bottom of the third with a double and scored on a Zach Jaffe sacrifice fly. With the bases loaded, Chris DeGiacomo worked a walk to force in a run and bring JHU to within one at 4-3.
• Betz gave up a walk and single in the third but he got Jack Blanchard to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the frame.
• Johns Hopkins took the lead in the fourth as the Blue Jays scored four times. Adam Kohl registered his first collegiate hit with an infield single but was erased by an Ainsworth fielder's choice. Tim Kutcher followed with a single to score Ainsworth. With runners on second and third, Chris Festa lined a double to left-center to score two and came around to score on a Mike Eberle single.
• Consecutive errors by Hopkins to open the fifth put two on with no outs and after a bunt put both runners in scoring position, a sacrifice fly and double pulled the Big Red to within one run. Jack Bunting came in with the tying run on second but he was able to get the final out of the frame and preserve the JHU one-run lead.
• Bunting retired the next 9 batters he faced, and after a two-out single in the top of the ninth, he shut the door and gave Johns Hopkins the 7-6 win.
