• The Short Story: The 23rd-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shutout host Washington College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed a 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles matches. Sophomores Joe Cartledge and Cody Kim earned the first point of the match when they beat Justin Panepinto and Luke Weaver, 8-3.
• Freshman Alex Matisse and sophomore Vik Vasan then defeated Koby Bonta and Andrew Smith, 8-1, to make it a 2-0 match. Sophomore Charlie Humes and freshman Matt Lurie closed out doubles play with an 8-6 victory at third over Jake Sandler and Mitchell Evans.
• Cartledge also grabbed the first singles point of the match as he beat Weaver 6-2, 6-2 at second to push the Blue Jays' lead to four. Kim then clinched the win by losing just two games in his 6-2, 6-0 win over Sandler at first. Lurie followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth over August Meriot.
• Freshman Robby Simon was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at third over Bonta. Vasan turned the same trick as Kim in his win at fifth over Panepinto. Humes wrapped up the match with an 8-2 win at sixth over John Niswander.
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 41-24 all-time against Washington College and has won 15 straight in the series.
• The Blue Jays run their regular season conference win streak to 24 matches.
• The win sets up a showdown with Swarthmore in the regular season finale. The winner of the match will be the regular season Centennial Conference champion and top seed in the conference tournament.
