• The Short Story:
Alex Darwiche hit his team-leading fourth home run and knocked in four RBI while
Nick Burns went six strong innings as the Johns Hopkins baseball team defeated McDaniel 14-7 on Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
• JHU opened the scoring in the top of the first as
Tim Kutcher singled to lead off the game and then stole second where he scored on a Darwiche single up the middle.
• Brett Anderson led off the bottom of the first with a single for McDaniel and advanced to third where he would be left stranded.
• The Green Terror had another scoring threat in the bottom of the second with runners on the corners and no outs but Burns got retired the next three batters on a strikeout, pop out and a strikeout to thwart the McDaniel threat.

Zach Jaffe singled up the middle in the third and scored on Darwiche's fourth home run of the year as the senior catcher took a 1-0 pitch from Rhodes over the left field fence to give JHU a 3-0 lead.
• McDaniel got a run in the bottom of the third on a Tom Daly single but Burns got out of yet another jam as the Green Terror stranded two more runners.
• The Blue Jays increased their lead to 5-1 in the fifth as Darwiche walked to force in a run and
Mike Smith singled to score Darwiche later in the inning.
• Kasey Nelson doubled to lead off McDaniel sixth and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2 Blue Jays.
• JHU sent 12 men to the plate in the seventh as Hopkins scored seven runs on four hits. Smith and
Chris DeGiacomo both had a 2-RBI singles in the inning. Two runs scored on a fielding error on a Jaffe ground ball and
Mike Eberle knocked in the final run for Johns Hopkins in the inning with a single to center to make the score 12-2.
• The Green Terror scored three times in the bottom of the inning to pull to within seven and they added two more in the eighth to make the score 12-7.
• JHU added some insurance runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from
Nick Li and an RBI single from
Bradley Martin.
Jake Griffin retired the Green Terror in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 14-7 win.

• Burns, who struck out his 100th career batter in the second inning, finished the game with six innings pitched, seven Ks and zero walks. He surrendered five hits and two runs.
• Darwiche finished the day going 2-2 with four RBI and three runs scored. He now has 16 RBI on the season.
• Kutcher and Jaffe both went 3-6 with three runs scored while DeGiacomo had two hits, two RBI and a run scored in the game.
