• The Short Story: The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over visiting Gettysburg Friday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 win over Gettysburg by sweeping doubles and dropping just five games in the process. Freshman Alex Matisse and sophomore Vik Vasan grabbed the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at second over Jacob Meehan and Henry Pletcher.
• Sophomores Joe Cartledge and Austin Gu turned the same trick with their win at first over Thomas Gilio and Kevin Maier. Freshman Jack Hogan and sophomore Charlie Humes closed out doubles with an 8-3 defeat of Andrew Corwin and Christian Deschappelles at third.
• Sophomore Aaron Carey picked up the first singles point after losing just one game in his win over Maier at second. Freshman Robby Simon then clinched the win for the Blue Jays as he beat Gilio 6-1, 6-3 at third.
• Senior Justin Kang followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win versus Deschappelles at first. With the match decided, the final three matches were played in eight-game pro sets. Freshman Matt Lurie earned an 8-1 win over Corwin at fourth.
• Matisse earned a win by the same score at fifth over Pletcher. Harrison Brown the grabbed a point for the Bullets with a close 8-6 win over sophomore Nathan Safran at sixth.
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 43-14 all-time against Gettysburg and has won 21 straight in the series.
