How it Happened
• The invitational will be played as a Points of the Compass draw. At the end of each round, the winners continue their competition in the same direction, while the losers move to a traditional consolation bracket and then to satellite brackets that ensure each team will play four matches. The teams will play an eight-game pro-set doubles match, and the individuals will then face each other in best-of-three formats with the third set played as a super-tiebreaker.
• Wang and Matisse opened with a 2-1 win over Edik Pribitkin and Colin Corsini (Loyola) in the quarterfinals. The Blue Jay pair took the doubles point with a 6-0 win. Pribitkin beat Wang 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (8) while Matisse defeated Corsini 6-0, 6-2.
• Wang and Matisse then beat teammates
Robby Simon and
Jack Hogan, 3-0. Wang and Matisse grabbed the doubles point with a 6-4 win. Wang defeated Simon 7-5, 6-3 and Matisse beat Hogan 6-1, 6-3 in singles.
• Simon and Hogan opened the day with a 2-1 win over Benny Glezer and Kyle Gower (Loyola) in the quarterfinals. The Greyhound duo took the doubles point with a 6-3 win. Simon won by injury default over Glezer and Hogan win 6-4, 6-1 over Gower in singles.
• Sophomore
Naevin Anukornchaikul and junior
Eric Yoo lost their quarterfinal match to Skyler Gates and Luis Bonilla (Loyola), 2-1. The Loyola duo grabbed the early lead with a 6-4 win in doubles. In singles play, Gates beat Yoo, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (4) while Anukornchaikul beat Bonilla 6-2, 6-3.
