Five Blue Jays Named to All-Centennial Conference Field Hockey Team

LANCASTER, PA – Five members of the Johns Hopkins field hockey team earned All-Centennial Conference honors as it was announced Tuesday morning. Senior Katie McErlean and sophomore Abby Birk led the way as the pair each earned First Team All-Centennial honors. Junior Seema Sajjan and sophomore Maddie Brown-Scherer earned second team honors and junior Michaela Corvi was named honorable mention.

Hopkins has now produced 14 All-Centennial Conference selections under third-year head coach Jane Wells. Since the conference's inception in 1993, JHU has produced 99 All-Centennial honorees. In addition to the five all-conference selections, senior Christina Glaser was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

McErlean becomes just the fifth player in program history to earn All-CC honors four times. She earned second team honors as a freshman, honorable mention as a sophomore and first team as a senior. McErlean leads the Blue Jays with a career-high 12 goals and ranks second in points (29) and assists (5). She ranks in the top-10 in school history in career points (75) and goals (29) and the top-15 in assists (17).

Birk picks up her second career all-conference honor after earning second team honors a year ago. She leads the Blue Jays and the Centennial Conference and ranks third in the nation with 17 assists. She also leads the team with 37 points and ranks third with 10 goals. Birk's 17 assists are the second most in school single-season history and are two shy of Amy Bruschi's record.

Sajjan is a stalwart member of the Hopkins' defense, in particular on the Blue Jays' corner defensive sets. This is her first career all-conference honor. Hopkins ranks third in the Centennial Conference in goals against average (1.19) and is ninth nationally in scoring margin (2.48).

Brown-Scherer also earns all-conference honors for the first time in her career. She has erupted for 11 goals and five assists, ranking second on the team in both categories. She also ranks third in points with 27 after notching 13 as a rookie.

Corvi grabs her second straight honorable mention all-conference honor in her second year with the Blue Jays. She ranks fourth on the team in goals (9), assists (4) and points (22). Four of her nine goals this season have been game-winners, including in the Centennial Conference championship game against seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall.
