The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's team won its record seventh Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championship, and second in the last three years, with a 7-0 record at Sunday's championship. In addition, six Blue Jays earned all-conference honors and junior
Katherine Xiang earned her 200
th career win.

How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day by knocking off the reigning champion, Stevens, 15-12. The Blue Jays grabbed wins in the Sabre (5-4) and Foil (6-3) while dropping a close one in the Epee (4-5). Junior
Erin Chen and freshman
Cecilia Taylor led the Sabre squad with two wins each. Sophomore
Brooke Stanicki won all three of her bouts in the Foil, while classmate
Shaina Morris did the same in the Epee.
• The Blue Jays then beat the Vassar Brewers, 18-9, with wins in the Sabre (8-1) and Foil (6-3). Chen and Taylor combined for six wins to lead the Sabre squad, while freshman
Erika Wong won all three of her bouts in the Foil.
• Hopkins followed with a shutout of the City College of New York, 27-0. Senior
Maggie Vitale, sophomore
Rebecca Zhou and freshman
Cherlin Zhu each went 3-0 for the Sabre squad. In the Foil, Wong, Xiang and senior
Rebecca Rosenthal did the same. And in the Epee, juniors

Jiawen Zeng and freshman
Bridget O'Leary combined for nine wins.
• JHU beat Yeshiva, 22-5, with shutout wins in the Sabre and Foil. Zhu, Zhou and Vitale once again went unbeaten to lead the Sabre squad to the win. Rosenthal, Xiang and Stanicki combined for nine wins in the Foil. And in the Epee, senior
Jaynie Criscione won all three of her bouts in a tough 5-4 loss for Hopkins.
• The Blue Jays then beat the Haverford Fords, 20-7, and once again earned wins in both the Sabre (9-0) and Foil (7-2). Zhou, Vitale and Chen each went unbeaten for the Sabre squad and Wong turned the same trick in the Foil.
• Hopkins picked up its sixth win of the day with a 24-3 win, including a sweep of all three weapons, over Hunter. Chen and Vitale combined for six wins to lead the Sabre squad (8-1). Xiang and Rosenthal did the same in leading the Foil squad to a 9-0 win. And in the Epee, Morris won all three of her bouts as they Blue Jays picked up a 7-2 win.
• Hopkins closed out the day, and the championship, with a 23-4 win over Drew. Chen, Zhou and Taylor each went unbeaten to lead the Sabre squad to a shutout. Wong, Stanicki and Xiang each picked up two wins as the Foil squad won 6-3. Criscione and Morris won three bouts each to lead the Epee squad to an 8-1 win.

What it Means
• Hopkins' seventh EWFC Championship break its tie with Drew for most in conference history. In addition, JHU grabbed the Foil team championship for the second straight year and sixth overall. The Sabre squad grabbed top honors for the third straight year and sixth all-time. Â
• Chen, Stanicki and Zhou each earned First Team All-EWFC honors while Bisen, Wong and Xiang earned Second Team All-EWFC honors.
• Xiang become the 12
th fencer overall, and fifth Foilist, to reach 200 career wins. She now ranks third in program history with 212 career Foil wins, just behind Rosenthal, who ranks second with 218 wins.
• Chen, the all-time wins leader in the Sabre, now ranks third in school history among all weapons with 265 wins. Â
