Austin Gu has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week it was announced Monday. This is his third weekly conference honor of the season and fourth of his career.
Gu went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to help Hopkins to a 2-0 week. He won 8-4 at third doubles and then clinched the win over Franklin & Marshall with a 6-2, 6-3 win at first singles. On Saturday against the Garnet, Gu earned an 8-6 win at first doubles over the doubles team ranked 13th in the region. He then rallied to win at second singles. Gu dropped the first set, 6-2, but he responded with a 6-1 win in the second. He then fell behind 4-1 in the third set but rallied to win the set 7-5 and take the match.
Hopkins is back in action on Tuesday at McDaniel.
