Joshi Added to NCAA Singles Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Johns Hopkins sophomore Vishnu Joshi has been added to the NCAA Singles Championship it was announced this week. This will be his second straight year competing at the championships.

Joshi was originally named as the first alternate for singles when the selections were announced on Wednesday, May 8. Two singles players scratched from the tournament earlier this week and Joshi was added to the championship. He is 10-6 in singles this season, including 7-3 in dual matches at the number one spot. Last season, Joshi earned All-America honors after winning his first match at the championships. He then fell in the round of 16 in three sets.

For the individual championships, the national committee selected seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions. Additionally, the committee selected the remaining four singles players and four doubles team berths from a national at-large pool. The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams.

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. Any singles player or doubles team that scratches from the tournament will be replaced in sequential order by the published list of alternates.

The team championship will take place May 20-22, while the individual championships will be May 24-26, both at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI. The draw for the individual championship will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on May 23.
